Louis Vuitton‘s artistic director of women’s collections Nicolas Ghesquière refreshes the relationship between the fashion house’s heritage of traditional trunk design for the women’s autumn/winter 2015 collection. The hard handbags are a riff on the time-honoured cuboid containers most commonly used for holding clothes and personal belongings for travel, scaled down from over-sized luggage cases to portable carry-ons.

Vuitton’s luxury handbag collection for 2015 sources everything from an auto trunk for Citroën and Albert Kahn’s photographer’s case, to a tweed vanity container and Louis Vuitton’s ‘Unpickable’ lock and key design. New materials, patterns and motifs add a twist on the classic, with malletage metallics and plexiglass pouches appearing alongside much-adored monogram prints.
