X Factor runner-up Marcus Collins debuts single Seven Nation Army

X Factor 2011 runner-up, Marcus Collins is set to release his debut single, ‘Seven Nation Army’, on Simon Cowell’s SyCo Music label. The song, sees Collins cover a cover; it seems that once again the Cowell-owned label has sent out another post-X Factor act with a carbon-copy track. Marcus Collins proved himself to be a competent performer and with the right track, was seen as the British alternative to Bruno Mars, so it is disappointing, once again, to see that the label hasn’t spent a bit of time and money in pairing Collins up with a strong songwriter.

The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ track in 2003 has seen many copies and differing versions, but it is the French soul and jazz singer Ben l’Oncle Soul’s version that Collins has chosen to copy. It is however a good fun pop song that will undoubtedly do well when it is released on 4 March, but it could have been so much better.
