I’m always open to hear feedback from everyone else and ideas that are proposed and thinking behind thought processes are great to get to know and increase knowledge. Sarah Crux is one of those people that made me think about what I had written about Dean Stockings work, ‘Sofa So Naked’. Seeing Stockings work, former Central St Martin’s art student, Crux pointed me to an obvious point of inspiration – Rankin’s own creation, ‘Sofa so Sexy’.

Rankin’s project displays all his usual photography skills and trademark nudity, getting his subjects to pose on an old 1950’s french brown leather sofa.

Seeing Dean Stockings work, you can tell the difference in the two creative’s brains, where Stockings uses innate props to help create the atmosphere and a peek into the minds of his models, Rankin looks to expose the inner being of his subjects by placing them in scenes of extreme nudity and daring that exhibits their inner sexuality. Rankin’s ability to get people to take their clothes off is probably only matched by nude landscape artist Spencer Tunick.

So thanks to Sarah, we take a look back at Rankin’s ‘Sofa So Sexy’ work –

Now compare to Stockings –
