Last night: NightJar, Shoreditch
Last night me and the gang that is the United Colours of Benneton reject models from 1999, headed to Shoreditch’s relatively new late night haunt, NightJar. Hidden away from all the Essex invasion that seems to have hit East London’s ‘trendy’ area of choice, NighJar offers a quaint, but beautifully decked out cocktail bar and live music spot.
Cocktails are split into four categories, with the bar harking back to the days of old, when people would enjoy a cocktail and talk about their day’s trials and tribulations. Think ‘Thank You For Smoking’ mixed with Clover Club or Angel’s Share in New York and you are about there.
NIGHTJAR COCKTAIL STYLES:
- Pre-Prohibition: 1600-1918
Ancient recipes as well as early classics from the likes of iconic bartenders Jerry Thomas and Harry Johnson.
- Prohibition: 1918-1932
Serious cocktails from a desperate time.
- Post-War: 1940-2000
Encompassing our twists on some latter-day classics from the cocktail hinterland that was the post-war years up to the cocktail renaissance of the new millennium.
- NightJar Signatures
All are original creations from the NightJar team, most containing infusions, liqueurs or bitters created in-house.
All of this and some great live music that spans Jazz, Rockabilly, Swing and World Music whilst enjoying some tasty canapes made in front of you at your table (I missed these as the gang ate them all – but are apparently amazing) – what more could you need… good toilets – CHECK! Make sure you go and take your date there soon before those Only Way is Essex ladies and gents take it under their Chanel emblazoned wing!
